Cell Phone Policy
Cell Phone Policy
Dear Parents and Caring Adults
The Instructional Leadership Team recognizes that cell phones have become a common tool for communication for you and your scholar. However, they have also become a major distraction to the learning environment. A scholar who brings a cell phone or electronic device to school is responsible for their property.
The PS 188K School of Arts Cell Phone Policy is as follows:
- All cell phones, tablets, and/or iPad that enter the school building must be turned off and must stay off throughout the duration of the school day.
- At no point during the school day is a cell phone to be utilized or turned on.
- If a cell phone is removed from a student’s school bag or displayed at any point during the school day, it will be confiscated and returned to the scholar at the end of the day. If a scholar refuses to surrender their electronic device or cell phone, a parent/guardian must pick up the device.
- No electronic device and/or cell phone are permitted on trips.
- Students who use cell phones in violation of the DOE’s Discipline Code, the PS 188K Cell Phone Policy, Chancellor’s Regulation A-413, and/or the DOE’s Internet Acceptable Use and Safety Policy (“IAUSP”) will be subject to discipline in accordance with the guidance interventions and disciplinary responses set forth in the Discipline Code.
PS 188K School of Arts Cell Phone Policy goes into effect on January 3, 2022. Thank you for your support and cooperation with our new policy. If you have any questions or concerns regarding our new policy, please reach out to our Parent Coordinator or Assistant Principal at 718.265.7580
Educationally yours,
Principal King
