Counceling in schools

Counseling in Schools

Counseling in Schools is a non-profit organization which aims to promote the emotional and social growth of students so that they can succeed in school and in life. At PS 188K, Counseling in Schools provides individual and group art therapy and drama therapy to students, Pre-K-5, and their families. Art therapy and drama therapy are mental health professions that encourage people to express themselves both verbally and nonverbally through the process of making art and through embodied enactment. Students work to regulate their emotions, increase communication skills, and improve self-esteem. For more information on CIS, https://www.counselinginschools.org

Since its establishment in 1858, the YWCA has been an organization committed to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace. In honor of this history, and in service of our mission, the YW-NYC currently provides leadership and advocacy training for young women through our Girls Initiatives program, and youth development through our Out-of-School Time (OST) program for elementary and middle school students in culturally diverse communities in Brooklyn and Manhattan. FHC

Family Health Centers At NYU Langone

Family Health Centers School-Based Health Program includes primary care, mental health, and dental services. directly to children and adolescents through clinics located in public elementary, middle, and high schools throughout New York City. We care for children when they are sick, but also provide preventive medical care to keep them healthy. By operating clinics inside schools, we help ensure that healthcare is accessible and convenient for children and families. A healthy child misses fewer days of school, which makes it easier to keep up with schoolwork and succeed academically. Also, when a child is healthy, his or her parents miss fewer days of work.

Dear Parent/Guardian:

This is to inform you that the FLU vaccine is now available at the PS 188 School Based Health Center. Annual Influenza vaccine is recommended for all children 6 months and older.

Influenza (the flu) is an infection of the nose, throat, and lungs caused by influenza virus. The flu can be very dangerous for children especially those with weakened immune systems or long term health conditions such as asthma.

To protect against the flu, the first and most important thing you can do is to get a flu vaccine for yourself and your child.

If your child has had the flu vaccine this season, please bring in a record with proof of immunization so that the school record can be updated. (Please disregard if already submitted)

If you would like your child to receive this immunization, please arrange an appointment at the PS 188 School Based Health Center or with your child's doctor/clinic. Please call 718-265-7587 to schedule an appointment at the PS 188 School Based Health Center.

For appointments at the School Based Health Center, please bring or send in your child's immunization book/record on the day of the appointment.

Although there is no charge for these services at our School Based Health Center, we do bill insurance carriers and need to update your insurance information every school year.

If your child is not currently enrolled in the School Based Health Program, please contact the clinic at 718-265-7587 to request an enrollment packet.

Thank you for your prompt attention.

Movement

We believe that all children can excel when supported in certain aspects of their development. Our curriculum utilizes Basketball training drills, that will push our students to new levels of achievement they may not have reached before. Our goal is to broaden their horizons on what’s attainable by focusing on their own unique inner strength. They will learn the importance of teamwork, how to listen effectively, increase coordination, and how to trust peers. We intend for each child that participates, to realize they have what it takes to be better than they thought possible. We will promote that self-realization with encouragement and praise to ultimately increase their self-confidence and develop pride for their accomplishments. Each Training program is specifically designed by us, the Co- Founders, Louis "Shamel" Frye and Jamel “530” Thomas.

For information, you can email Mr. Frye frye@movementthrusports.com or Mr. Thomas frye@movementthrusports.com.

Einstein Program

The Einstein Program is a privately funded, New York based organization whose mission is to provide free education and mentoring to underserved students in order to achieve the success that they deserve. We do this by combining individualized and engaging learning experiences with one-on-one mentoring that helps build confidence, instills a love of learning and inquiry and imparts an expanded sense of their potential. We create customized lesson plans that address the specific needs and interests of each student—and bring to life the subject matter they are already studying through hands-on exercises, videos, games, discussions and other interactive approaches. Our goal is to avoid adding to their existing assignment workloads and other responsibilities more than necessary. We also support our students with advice, mentoring and coaching oriented to their specific personal development needs, as well as in general life skills associated with success, such as executive functioning, critical thinking, goal setting and communication.
